Stefan Rothe

Bio:

Stefan was born and grew up in Dresden, Germany, where he started competitive cycling in 1993 as 12-year old. Under the guidance of his former coaches, who all relied on the East German training system, Stefan developed quickly into a good junior and U23 racer. He competed in Junior World Cup races around Europe, got to experience the cobbles in Belgium and Netherlands, and climb mountains in the Austrian and Switzer Alps in UCI stage races as an Espoir racer.

After a year of studying Sports Science and Latin America Studies (“se habla espanol”) at the University of Bielefeld, Stefan accepted a cycling scholarship from Midwestern State University (MSU) in Wichita Falls, Texas, in order to race on the collegiate level and continue his education. Just two years later, he received a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and entered the Graduate Program in the same department at MSU.

Stefan brings a lot of international experience to Source Endurance, having raced and doing training camps in more than 15 countries on 4 continents. At present, he is a member of the Mercy Elite Cycling Team and competes in Texas and some national level races throughout the year.

Since more than 3 years Stefan has been a member of USAC Coaching Association and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). In 2007, he was involved in founding the Wichita Falls High School Cycling Team and working as an Assistant Coach at the USA Cycling Regional Development Camp in Lubbock, Texas.

His ability to communicate well with athletes of all ability-levels makes it easy for clients to work with him and his coaching philosophies. He believes that a strong mind is the foundation for a strong body and athletic success.

Stefan’s background is not limited to road cycling only, as he competes regularly on the track and collected multiple podiums at Collegiate Track National Championships. In the off-season, he can also be seen at local 5K runs and Sprint Triathlons.

Currently, Stefan is working on his thesis for a M.S. in Exercise Physiology.
